THE Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has reaffirmed that the implementation of Club Licensing Regulations will continue as a way to strengthen governance, professionalism, and competitiveness within Zimbabwean football.
In a statement released on Tuesday, ZIFA acknowledged stakeholder concerns but stressed that the core principles of the licensing system are non-negotiable.
“While we recognise the concerns raised by stakeholders and remain open to constructive engagement on timelines and transitional mechanisms, the principles underpinning Club Licensing are non-negotiable,” the statement read. “Financial discipline, proper administration, technical standards and safeguarding are essential pillars of a modern football ecosystem. Our approach is not punitive but developmental.”
ZIFA further assured clubs and leagues that it will work closely with them to ensure clear guidance and support for compliance. “We are committed to working closely with the leagues and their clubs to ensure clarity, reasonable compliance pathways and practical support, while maintaining steady progress toward a structured, credible and CAF-aligned football framework that benefits the entire game,” the association added.
The Club Licensing Regulations, aligned with Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards, aim to professionalize football administration across Zimbabwe, improve financial management, and enhance the overall competition.
