ZIFA on Tuesday announced Michael Nees as the new head coach of the Zimbabwe men’s football team.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association is delighted to announce the appointment of Michael Nees as the new head coach of the Zimbabwe Men’s National Team,” wrote Zifa on their official social media platforms.

The 57-year-old German will lead the Warriors in their quest for success in the AFCON 2025 and FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Nees last worked as manager of the Kosovo national Under-21 team. He had a stint as a technical advisor for South Africa from 2008 to 2009. Nees was leading a long-term project in South Africa and assisted the local association, SAFA in coach training, the further development of women’s and girls’ football and the promotion of talent.

The Warriors begin their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification assignment against Kenya in September and conclude the campaign in November before shifting focus to the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers that resume next year in March.
