THE Zifa Central Soccer League (CSL) has hailed the decision by the association’s councillors to dissolve the Cuthbert Dube-led board as a step towards restoring normalcy to domestic football.

CSL chairman Felton Kamambo said the incessant infighting cost them crucial sponsorship to bankroll the league. Dube and his entire Zifa board had their mandate revoked on Saturday and elections have now been slated for December 5 to usher in a new board.

Kamambo said they would re-engage potential sponsors following the booting out of the Zifa board. “As a region, we almost got sponsors but most of them couldn’t commit because of what was happening at Zifa.

“The firing of the board is a step in the right direction for us because we’re confident that it will usher in a new lease of life for football,” said Kamambo. “We intend to re-engage our potential sponsors and are hopeful of getting something before the season comes to an end.

“It might not be what we’d been promised at the beginning of the season, but it will be substantial,” he said, declining to divulge the names of potential sponsors for fear of jeopardising pending negotiations.

Kamambo was one of the fiercest critics of Dube’s management style resulting in him being suspended from the board.

He was only reinstated after Fifa refused to endorse his suspension together with councillors.

He hoped the December 5 elections would usher in a new dawn with leadership that will bring professionalism and transparency to the game.

“I hope the new president and the new board will be people who’ve an appreciation and understanding of football, not people who are in the game for the sake of it. This is what has made our game suffer.

“I also expect transparency and professionalism in the new leadership so that they bring in good corporate governance to restore goodwill in Zifa.

“This will go a long way in attracting corporate partners to Zifa since it’ll become an attractive brand.”
