Zifa to conduct trials for U-19

Cosafa Super Cup to be held in South Africa next month.
Zimbabwe are expected to feature in the four-team tournament together with Angola, Namibia and Swaziland.
The Young Warriors have been invited to the tournament scheduled to start from April 20-25 in Cape Town.
National Under-20 team manager Eddie Chivero said yesterday that they would be identifying players during a selection process to be held in the major towns.
“We need to select the team that will participate at the tournament.
We don’t have proper junior structures or a database for the junior players.
So we are calling for trials so that we identify talent that has not been exposed.
“The head coach Taurai Mangwiro will be in Harare and he will conduct trials at Gwanzura while Mandla Mpofu will be at Raylton Sports Club in Bulawayo and Innocent Chogugudza will be at Ascot in Gweru,” said Chivero.
Chivero said they are expecting to come up with a squad of 18 players from this exercise. That is the side that will then go into camp a week before travelling to Cape Town.
“We are looking at having a final selection camp where we will assess what the technical team would have come up with in their regions before the main camp which should start on April 11.
“We are looking at players born before January 1 1992, and all the players should bring their passports. We are likely to face the challenge though of players without travelling documents,” said Chivero.
Although most of the Young Warriors who featured for Zimbabwe at the Metropolitan Cosafa in Botswana last December still make the grade, the technical team is looking at according new players a chance.
“We are supposed to submit the names by Monday but we will communicate with Zifa. We were advised of the tournament when we played in Botswana. Luckily some of the players are still eligible but we want to select players on merit hence we feel we should have a look at more players
“We would want to build a strong team from this group, which should also be able to compete at this year’s Cosafa’s championships in December,” said Chivero.
The Young Warriors finished third at the Cosafa Under-20 competition which was won by Zambia.
Such players like Kuda Mahachi, Marvellous Nakamba and Moris Kadzola will be vying for places to play at the invitational tournament.
It should not be the case, however, for Dynamos midfielder Denver Mukamba and CAPS United striker Simba Sithole who have since graduated into the senior team.
