IT’S war in Zimbabwean football circles as the Zimbabwe Football Federation for Amateur and Social Leagues (ZIFASOL) has come out swinging after being slapped with a suspension by ZIFA.

In a fiery response to a letter from the ZIFA secretariat dated 12 June 2025, ZIFASOL boss Francis Zimunya flatly rejected the mother body’s attempt to shut them down, accusing ZIFA of high-handedness and illegal interference.
“We take your decision in the document the opposite way,” Zimunya fired back. “On several occasions we have sought to have a meeting with you as ZIFA to exchange notes and find common ground but you have failed to accommodate us, offering nothing but unfounded excuses.”

He accused ZIFA of shutting the door on dialogue and failing to follow due process as outlined in the ZIFA Constitution.
“You have closed the door for ZIFASOL to be in the Assembly without following proper procedure and without giving us any reasons. This affects thousands of players ZIFA has ignored for over 20 years.”

Zimunya made it clear that ZIFASOL is not a ZIFA affiliate and does not answer to the national football body.
“ZIFASOL is an independent organisation with its own constitution, rules and regulations that govern its operations. We urge ZIFA not to interfere with our work or risk facing legal consequences.”

ZIFASOL also hit back on a moral front, reminding ZIFA of its duty to grassroots football.
“May we remind you that every child has a right to education and skills training. ZIFASOL plays a major role in offering this through sport where ZIFA has failed.”

With tensions rising and no end in sight, the ball is now in ZIFA’s court.
