ZiFM fete mesmerises Bulawayo

ZiFM Stereo celebrated its third anniversary in style with a series of parties at Club Eden in Bulawayo last weekend. Chauffeur-driven in a white limousine, the urban radio station’s personalities who arrived in Bulawayo last Thursday to meet and party with listeners, earned themselves new followers who were mesmerised by their presence.

Comprised of DJ Flevah, MC Etherton B, Farai Gwaze, Simbarashe Kaparipari (DJ Eskay), Kudakwashe Dzenga (Lady K), Candice Mwakalyeyle, Tendai Garwe (Sokostina), Samantha Rusere and Tich Mawoni, the personalities left a lasting impression as those who attended the parties were visibly excited to meet the faces behind the voices they hear on radio.

But the parties held under the ‘We own August’ banner belonged to news anchor, Candice Mwakalyelye who was also celebrating her birthday.

It was almost impossible for her to take more than five steps without being stopped by fans who wanted to pose for photos and chat with her. All eyes were on her on Friday when she took a chair, stood on it and danced while Judgement Yard took care of business on the turntables.

As usual, Judgment Yard put up a good show as they kept revellers on their feet with their latest Zimdancehall and reggae tunes.

DJ Eskay and Sokostina who host the Love Lounge were instant hits with many teasing them, asking them to put their advice on sex matters to practice.

Not to be outdone was up-and-coming Zimdancehall artiste, Centre Party who joined the ZiFM family to celebrate their anniversary.

But, Horizon Club which hosted South Africa’s NaakMusiQ gig seemed to have failed to meet the ZiFM personalities’ expectations as they made a short appearance there on Saturday.

The disorder at the club’s gates made it difficult for one to enter or leave the venue, forcing the ZiFM personalities to ditch the club and make their way to Club Eden again where they were welcomed with two birthday cakes. There, Judgement Yard and Eskay took to the decks again, driving fans into a frenzy.

Some of the personalities, if not most, had a rude awakening at Horizon as they were pulled by rowdy patrons as they made their way out of the club with some being insulted for their dressing. Most were however happy they did not lose their valuables in the chaotic club.

ZiFM which started broadcasting on August 15 at 12 noon will host its main birthday celebrations at Maestro in Harare on Saturday.
