Nikki Magunda (23) and Pamhidzai Tracy Mbirimi (22), popularly known as Pah Chihera, will represent Zimbabwe at the SunBird Sand Music Festival to be held in Malawi from October 4 to 6.The music festival, meant to unite Southern African countries through music, will see musicians from South Africa, Malawi, Mozambique and Zambia performing at the event.
Among the artistes are Big Nuz, DJ Flavour, Oga Family, Paul Banda, Masukusi Band, Thoko Katimba and George Mkandawire, to mention just a few.
Karen Magunda, one of the organisers in Zimbabwe, said the show is meant to unite artistes as well as promote young and upcoming artistes.
Nikki and Pah Chihera said they were excited and felt honoured to showcase their talent outside the Zimbabwean borders.
“I feel honoured to share the stage with well- known artistes like Big Nuz. It is actually a big platform for me to sell my music and have it appreciated around Africa,” Pah Chihera said.
Nikki is one of the upcoming afro-pop artistes to watch out for. He started his music career in 2012 with the release of single called “No Matter What” featuring Pierra.
He calls his type of music afro-pop and has another new track called “Ndiye Ega” featuring Nox and “Maiwe” featuring Shinsoman.
Pah Chihera is another artiste who is coming up in a big way. She started as a backing vocalist for Prince Musarurwa before releasing a six-track album titled “Runonzi Rudo” last year.
The title track has captured the imagination of music lovers as it is a sing-along tune. She is working on the DVD for the album.
SunBird Sand Music Festival is an annual event that is held in Malawi and features artistes from Southern African countries.
