Gwanzura Stadium in Highfield will this Saturday reverberate to song and dance when some of the leading Zimbabwean dancehall artistes perform at the music extravaganza. The musical gala, which is dubbed “Zim Dancehall Festival”, will see more than 20 dancehall artistes performing live on stage.

Topping the bill will be none other than Sniper Storm, who is doing well with his hits “Wainira Musoja” and “Kwarira Mukati”.
Sniper is one of the most talented and experienced dancehall artistes. He started the urban grooves movement with the likes of Delani, David Chifunyise, Willom Tight and Potato in the late 1990s.

He is known for his energetic delivery on stage and his pulsating “redeems”. Also on the bill is Guspy Warrior, who is riding high with his hit song “Ita Seunononga”, which is receiving massive airplay on most radio stations.

So far indications are that Guspy is the one to beat this year for the best dancehall award.  His hit has become an anthem in most pubs and clubs.

Some of the artistes to look forward to include Shinsoman, Freeman, Final Warning, Dadza D, Jay C, Ricky Fire, Seh Calaz, Lady Squanda, Killa T, Kinnah, Spiderman and Addelino, among others.

Show organiser Partson “Chipaz” Cimbodza said he had recognised that Zim dancehall is a genre with a lot of artistes and followers countrywide. Therefore, the festival will cater for all the ghetto youths.

They will have a chance to see their artistes live on stage and it will provide a platform to upcoming artistes to showcase their talents.
“We have recognised that Zim dancehall has gained a lot of popularity among the ghetto youths.

“Many new artistes are also still coming in that’s why we decided to give them a platform to perform live in front of the youths,” he said.
The festival will also see a battle among top Zim dancehall DJs Templeman and Garry B vs Etherton Beenie while DJ Flavah will go head-to-head with Smiley in what is known as “tune-after-tune” contest.

The all-night event is scheduled to start at 12 midday and last until the wee hours of Sunday morning.
