Zim bowlers shine

The trips beat Kenya 18-12 after their pairs team of Tom Craven and Manuel Silva suffered a 9-19 defeat in a competitive encounter against the Kenyans.
Zimbabwe ended in third place at nine points while hosts South Africa took second place.
Namibia’s trips team were the overall winners and had 10 points.
Graham Synman, Namibia’s skip, said yesterday will be a memorable day for their team.
“This will be a memorable moment for our team, we did well and we are all very excited and happy.
“A number of us have been at Africa States before but for Gedion Appollis this was his first appearance and he has played very well,” said Synman.
In the women section, Zimbabwe grabbed silver medals in both the pairs and the trips.
Jane Rigby and Debbie Robertson won by 10 shots in their match.
While the pairs team were celebrating their victory, the trips team of Kerry Craven, Heather Singleton and Trish Davies managed to keep the momentum on the greens and beat Kenya 20-12. D’Reen Hacker, Zimbabwe women’s team manager, was over the moon after the fine show by the team.
“The ladies did well, it was a gale which affected the line of the balls, it was very gust and the conditions were windy but nonetheless they won and we are happy and proud of them,” said Hacker.
Meanwhile the singles and the fours bowled off yesterday and Zimbabwe got a bye but are expected to play this morning. Garden will skip in the men’s singles while Jane Rigby will skip in the women’s section.
Tom Craven will play the third, Mike Eaton in the second and Manuel Silva will play the lead. Heather Singleton will play third while Trish Davies play second and Debbie Robertson is playing lead.
