FOUR Zimbabwean boxers are eyeing gold when they trade leather in today’s AUSC Region 5 boxing finals at the Large City Hall. Tredy Nkomozabo (flyweight), Herbert Marimbo Rumbidzai and Nelson Itai Mutswayiro who will fight in the light heavyweight category and Ndaba Nhlanhla Kumbirai (heavyweight) will all be expected to fly the Zimbabwean flag high.

Nkomozabo advanced to the final after beating Namibia’s Mashihanga on points.

The Zimbabwean boxer dominated all the rounds of his bout and it came as no surprise when he was adjudged the winner after three rounds.

However, the same cannot be said of Ndodana Ncube who was knocked out in the semi-final by Mohamed Ontukelo of Botswana in the same category.

Team manager Petros Masiyambumbi is optimistic that the boxers will land at least one gold medal.

“My boys are in good shape and I’m very confident that by the close of business Zimbabwe will be having one more gold medal and it’ll be coming from the boxers,” said Masiyambumbi.
