The MoU which was signed by the Shanghai Institute for International Studies president, Professor Yang Jemian, and Southern African Research and Documentation Centre executive director, Ms Phyllis Johnson, will be implemented in collaboration with other research institutes and universities.
This is the second agreement signed between Sardc and a Chinese research institution following the recent visit to Zimbabwe by Cui Liru of the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations earlier this month on a similar mission. In a statement, Sardc said: “This agreement breaks new ground for China-Africa relations, and will enable scholars to interact directly on an on-going basis through joint activities, including conferences, research and exchanges.”
The MoU will establish a working partnership between the two institutes, providing the basis for collaboration in undertaking joint activities, strengthening mutual understanding and knowledge exchange. The Shanghai Institutes for International Studies comprises several bodies and is regarded one of the top ten think tanks worldwide. Sardc is an independent resource centre focusing on the Southern African region’s policy issues.
