THE Zim dancehall fraternity has erupted with excitement on social media after a clip of a British TV show – The Chase – recognised the genre on their platform.
The Chase is hosted by Bradley Walsh.
Contestants are asked questions by a professional quizzer, known as the “chaser.”
Bradley is an English actor, comedian, singer, television presenter, and former professional footballer. Enzo Ishall and DJ Fantan shared the video clip, which showed two contestants, who failed to answer the host’s question. He had asked where the Zim dancehall genre originates from. Enzo Ishall captioned the video clip with the words: “iri kukwana ipapo.”
The contestants gave wrong answers as they mentioned Ghana and Nigeria. The host told the contestants that Zimbabwe was the right answer.
Zim dancehall fans were elated as they reaffirmed and believe the genre is growing and a force to reckon in the country. Zim dancehall movement started to be visible during the turn of the millennium and made its presence felt in the local showbiz during the 2012/13 period as it dominated the streets.
It is now a genre that has firmly established its market base in the country.
