ZIM film, The Signal, which has taken the local movie industry by storm after its trailer caused waves on social media, is set to première on Friday.
The 20-minute short film will première at the Zimbabwe Academy of Music in Bulawayo.
Director and producer of The Signal, Daniel Lasker, summarised what the film is all about.
“It is about a deadly sound transmitted from space known as The Signal, and it corrupts the minds of all who hear it, turning them into soulless demons under its control.”
Lasker said it was his dream to make a Sci-Fi film, and he also believes their project matches world standards.
“For a long time I’ve wanted to make a Sci-Fi movie in Bulawayo.
“I love the genre, as you can be as creative as you want with it, your only limitation is your imagination.
“This film totally matches the standards of Hollywood.
“Our small team put so much hard work, passion and love into making this film, and it is on a level that Zimbabwe, and most of Africa, have never experienced before,” he told H-Metro.
Lasker said the first Ndebele sci-fi movie might inspire the players in the entertainment sector.
“We hope that this film inspires Zimbabweans, especially young creative people, by showing them what is really possible when you put your whole heart and soul into it.
“With limited resources, we made something truly special, and the first of its kind, on a level which many people would have previously thought was impossible.
“Bringing the first ever Ndebele Sci-Fi to life was an incredible honour and responsibility for our whole team,” he said.
Lasker said he has worked with international productions in the film industry.
“I’ve had the honour of working on many international productions over the past few years.
“Most notably I have acted in Season 1 and 2 of HBO’s Raised By Wolves, which was produced by Sir Ridley Scott.
“In it I acted alongside Travis Fimmel (Vikings), Matias Varela (Narcos) and several other big names.
“I also acted in Season 2 of BBC One’s Noughts & Crosses and I played the US President Abraham Lincoln’s Son, in a History Channel series.
“That’s just a few of the international projects I’ve been a part of,” said Lasker.
