THE National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ), in conjunction with the Ministry of Sport Recreation, Arts and Culture, yesterday launched the Zimbabwe Film Strategy for 2025-2030.

It outlines a comprehensive plan to transform the country’s film industry into a globally competitive sector.

The five-year strategy, developed in consultation with filmmakers, stakeholders and international partners, aims to promote local content, attract investment and create jobs within the creative industry.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture Emily Jesaya, said:

“As Governments, we believe that this strategy will make a real difference to our film industry and we are excited to get started.

“We are committed to supporting our filmmakers and helping them to produce high quality films that showcase our country’s unique perspective.

“We call upon our stakeholders that have a role to play in implementing this strategy to put all hands on the deck. It is the sector that brings life to this blueprint,” she said.

Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts, and Culture Permanent Secretary, Nicholas Moyo, said:

“The time is now for Zimbabwe to turn around our creative space. Many of us need to be asking what legacy we are leaving behind. You and I must become the catalysts needed to transform the fortunes of this sector in this country.”

“The time has passed where creatives specialise in blame. We often think that the world or the country owes us something for our progress.

“The real question is: ‘What do I have and what can I contribute to the creative space to help change its landscape?’

“We are a generation that must continuously drive change in the creative space and industrialise it.”

NACZ director, Napoleon Nyanhi, said:

“We worked with the film sector and a collective of filmmakers to create a document that will guide efforts to professionalise the industry,” he said.

“We consulted with filmmakers across all ten provinces and their contributions were integral in drafting this document.

“A strategic planning consultant helped us create a solid framework that represents the aspirations of artists and filmmakers.”
