ZIMBABWE is back in the continental football spotlight as ZIFA President Nqobile Magwizi led a high-powered delegation to the 47th Ordinary General Assembly of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo.

Magwizi was joined by ZIFA Vice President Loveness Mukura and General Secretary Yvonne Manwa at the influential gathering, chaired by CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe. The assembly brought together football bosses from all 54 CAF Member Associations, zonal unions, and senior administrators from across Africa.

It tackled major issues affecting African football, including governance reforms, competition structures, and development programmes aimed at strengthening the game across the continent.

In a statement after the assembly, Magwizi said Zimbabwe’s attendance was a powerful symbol of the country’s football revival.
“Zimbabwe’s presence at the CAF Congress reflects our renewed commitment to active engagement in continental and global football affairs,” said Magwizi. “We are steadily reintegrating into the international football community, ensuring that our voice, ideas, and ambitions contribute to the growth of the game both at home and across Africa.”

The delegation also held side meetings with other member associations to explore future collaborations in capacity building and grassroots development.

Football insiders see this as a symbolic comeback for ZIFA and a critical step toward restoring Zimbabwe’s standing in global football circles.
