CUBA’s chief diplomat to Zimbabwe, Ambassador Susellys Pérez Mesa, yesterday said the solidarity her country has received from friendly countries like Zimbabwe in the face of ongoing aggression from the United States strengthens its resolve to defend its sovereignty, values and right to self-determination.

Ambassador Mesa said Cuba has an unwavering position to defend its sovereign right despite the United States imposing a ruthless war nobody wants but which her country is ready to face.

“The revolution of the Cuban people to defend our homeland is unwavering and it will always be better to have the friendly hand from Zimbabwe, especially now when our northern neighbour is trying to impose a ruthless war that we do not want for anyone, but we are ready to face, if it is necessary. We count on Zimbabwe in the development of a multipolar front of international solidarity.

“I do believe we are living in a particularly dangerous time for humanity and for Cuba. We are suffering the consequences of an increasingly unstable international scenario, where the use of force, unilateral coercive measures, cognitive or unconventional warfare, occupation of territories, the conquest of natural resources, and the disregard and violation of international law are becoming normalised. This is very worrying. It is not just about Cuba, it goes much further,” Ambassador Mesa said.

Since January, the United States has been tightening its decades-long economic embargo, including blocking any oil deliveries to the island nation, which Ambassador Mesa considered an act of war under international law.

She said Cubans were ready to defend their independence at any price to overcome any adversity, as over six million citizens had pledged their allegiance to defend their country.

“Our people’s resolve to overcome adversity and move forward, even in the worst of circumstances, is unwavering. We are prepared to defend our right to self-determination and our independence, at whatever price is necessary, especially in the year of the Centenary of the Commander-in-Chief and historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz.”
