The ZANU PF Politburo is convening at the ruling party’s headquarters in Harare today, with the party’s First Secretary and President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa, expected to deliver his keynote address.
Today’s discussions, as per tradition, will likely focus on the state of the party and the economy.
The last Politburo meeting, which was the 391st Ordinary Session, was held on March 25, 2026. During that session, key discussions centred on the Constitutional Amendment No. 3 Bill (CAB 3), as the Politburo deliberated on the proposed amendments ahead of nationwide public hearings that commenced on March 30, 2026.
The Constitutional Amendment (No.3) Bill will now be subjected to scrutiny by Parliament after recent public hearings, marking a major milestone in the ongoing quest to reform the country’s governance architecture, in line with new developmental thrust.
Parliament is now receiving written submissions after conclusion of oral hearings. The relevant committees are now collating the data and producing a report on the consultations. The report will then be presented to Parliament after a second reading speech by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.
The second reading speech is done after the Bill’s introduction in the National Assembly when the 90-day period expires on May 18.
In his address at the previous meeting, President Mnangagwa commended ongoing party programmes aimed at enhancing efficiency and modernisation. He further reiterated the need for the Politburo to diligently implement party resolutions and uphold the principle of “Party supremacy” in relation to the Government.
Before that, the 390th Ordinary Session took place on February 25, 2026 — the first Politburo meeting of the year. That session came after the party held a two-day strategic seminar in Harare, which began on February 9, 2026.
Addressing members at the time, President Mnangagwa called for the implementation of party resolutions beyond electoral timelines, with a strong focus on anti-corruption, accountability and clean governance.
