THE Zimbabwe women golf team, which left the country yesterday for Botswana, are hopeful they will successfully defend the A and B Triangular Series Trophy.
Zimbabwe will face Botswana and Zambia in the tourney. The 11-member team has Rhoda Muridzo as the manager and several new players who include 11-year-old Margaret Nyamukondiwa. Loveness Chandavengerwa will captain the A Division team. Nyamukondiwa, playing off 18-handicap, will make her debut alongside Audrey Kamalizeni, Lorraine Huwa and Priscilla Makurumure in the A Division. Zimbabwe Ladies’ Golf Union president Nancy Dube, who is also the B Division team captain, said they were looking forward to defending their title.

“We have been practising since the Easter holidays and morale was very high within the players,” said Dube. “I am hopeful we are going to defend our title as we have players who are in good form. Some players will be taking part in the event for the first time but we also have some who were in the team in 2012.”

Meanwhile, Scott Vincent Virginia Tech posted a three-round total of 7-under-par 857 and finished in fourth place at the 61st Annual ACC Men’s Golf Championship on Sunday afternoon. Vincent carded a 2-under-par 70 on Sunday and finished in sixth place individually with a three-day total of five-under-par 211.
