THE Zimbabwe Handball Federation elections that were supposed to be held on Tuesday in Kariba have been postponed to a later date after some of the provinces failed to turn up.
The elections would have seen all the 10 provinces voting as well as Nash, Naph, the Women in Sport Commission and Athletes’ Commission.
But the Women in Sport failed to hold their general assembly last week to elect a new chairperson who would have represented them on Tuesday.
Outgoing president Amon Madzvamuse said they had to move the elections to a later date since some of the provinces did not turn up and the treasurer failed to present the financial report.
“The elections were postponed because there were some provinces that did not come, namely Matabeleland South, Matabeleland North and Harare. They were supposed to vote and we did not have a financial report from the treasurer. So, because of that I saw it fit to postpone the elections.
“We cannot have an annual meeting without the other provinces and the financial report. Those are the reasons we postponed the elections for,” said Madzvamuse.
However, there were reports that besides the failure by some of the provinces to attend Tuesday’s meeting, they did not have a presiding officer to oversee the process.
But Madzvamuse said they could have proceeded without the presiding officer.
He added that the provinces that failed to turn up did not have substantive provincial executives.
“We need to go and have elections in those provinces that did not come because they do not have substantive executives.
“These guys did have executives, but did not follow the constitution for their elections. And this is something we discovered now.
“Manicaland had their election, but did it without ZHF and automatically we are going to nullify the elections.
“We will be guided by the SRC. As long as we are not in line with our constitution, we cannot have elections,” Madzvamuse said.
