THE Zimbabwe hockey season officially kicks off today with an inter-provincial tournament at Khumalo Hockey Stadium. Hockey Association of Zimbabwe president Humphrey Chigwedere said they would also hold an indaba later today with the game’s various partners.

“We will be engaging our partners outside the annual general meeting because we realise that most of them disappear soon after the annual gathering. We shall map the way forward and look at where we need to improve as an association,” said Chigwedere.

He said they would also share their strategic plan with delegates as a way of taking hockey forward.

“This is an open discussion and anyone interested is free to come and share notes with us,” Chigwedere said.

Six teams will take part in the pre-season tournament set to kick off at 8AM. Three men’s teams from Bulawayo, Harare and Masvingo, and ladies’ sides, two from the City of Kings and one from Masvingo, will battle it out for honours.

The provincial leagues, schools hockey and national league will run up to September, according to HAZ.
