Zim innovator wins African leadership award

Zimbabwe’s innovator Maxwell Sangulani Chikumbutso is set to be honoured at the 2021 African Business Leadership Awards for his outstanding work to harness clean energy using radio frequencies to generate electricity.

He has been chosen to receive the African Business Leadership Commendation Award in recognition for his outstanding contributions to the renewable energy sector in Zimbabwe and beyond.

“Your ingenuity and innovative foresight started Saith Group and grew it to height impact and strides its making today. The board has noted your business leadership foresight which has continued to impact the less privileged as well as your internal and external community. This is commendable and hence this award,” read part of a letter he received from the UK-based organisers of the African Business Leadership Awards ceremony scheduled to be held virtually on September 17.

Previous recipients of the African Leadership Magazine Persons of the Year Awards, included director-general of the World Health Organization – Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, President of Ghana, Nana Akufo – Addo, Graca Machel and many others.

Chikumbutso is widely acclaimed for his innovations that include the green power generator which can produce electricity using radio frequencies and a string of other innovations.

The gifted innovator and Form 2 drop-out from Harare has also designed and built some major world-changing innovations that also include electric-powered vehicles, a hybrid helicopter and drones.

His work is set to revolutionise the continent’s energy and transportation system.

Chikumbutso is founder and head of Saith Holdings and after staying in the United States for some time, is back in the country where he is pursuing his scientific and engineering interests.

He has over the years attracted international attention for his innovations.

In 2020, he was featured on the Thrive II documentary which captured breakthroughs in science, medicine and engineering among top global innovators and inventors across the world.
