Zim, Iran to strengthen relations

Zimbabwe and Iran are making significant strides in enhancing their bilateral relations as evidenced by recent meetings and the signing of memorandums of understanding across several sectors.

During the 46th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution held in Harare yesterday, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Deputy Minister Sheilla Chikomo said cooperation in the health sector between the two countries had been enhanced by an MoU covering pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, education and health tourism.

“Zimbabwe received its first consignment of medicines from Iran in February 2024 following this agreement,” she said.

Deputy Minister Chikomo emphasised that agriculture is a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s economy, making enhanced cooperation in this sector essential for both nations.

“We look forward to welcoming the Iran Trader Manufacturing Company (ITMOS) to Zimbabwe.

“Furthermore, following the signing of an MoU on distribution, assembly, and manufacturing with MAKA Holdings, we anticipate finalising an MoU on tobacco and cigarette manufacturing to facilitate tobacco supply.”

Iran’s chargé d’affaires in Zimbabwe, Mr Hadi Tahen, was optimistic about the partnership. “Our partnership with Zimbabwe is grounded on mutual respect and shared goals. We believe that by working together, we can create opportunities that benefit both our nations.”
