INFORMATION, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa today launched the digital terrestrial television in Magunje.

Minister Mutsvangwa was accompanied by Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Mary Mliswa-Chikoka,  Information Deputy Minister Kindness Paradza and Information ministry permanent secretary Mr Nick Mangwana.

Zimpapers board chairman Mr Tommy Sithole and chief executive Mr Pikirayi Deketeke were also in attendance.

Other dignitaries present include Broadcasting Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ), Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) and Transmedia Zimbabwe senior officials.

At least 18 transmitters have been completed out of the targeted 48.

Minister Mutsvangwa said the migration from analogue to digital will help bridge the information gap between urban and rural communities.

“I am pleased to inform you today that with the coming in of the Second Republic, the digitalisation project in Zimbabwe is now gathering momentum.

“Since 2015, we have installed 18 digital television transmitters countrywide. The areas prioritised are those that were historically unserved or underserved with television services. Karoi is one of the areas,” she said.

Zimpapers chief executive, Mr Pikirayi Deketeke said Zimpapers’ ZTN television station was ready to play its part in informing and entertaining the communities in the now highly contested industry.
