What is the Zimbabwe-Mozambique trade agreement?
In terms of this agreement, goods originating from Zimbabwe enter Mozambique duty-free. Similarly, goods entering Zimbabwe from Mozambique come in duty-free.
The advantage is that your goods become competitive in the Mozambican market as their cost in Mozambique will below as a result this duty concession.

When was the agreement entered into?
Zimbabwe entered into this agreement with Mozambique in 2005.

What types of goods qualify?
The following categories of goods shall be considered as grown or produced in Zimbabwe:
l Mineral products extracted from the Zimbabwean soil
l Agricultural products harvested or gathered therein
l Live animals born and raised therein
l Products obtained from live animals
l Forest products harvested therein
l Fish and other fish products gathered therein or from the marine economic zone
l Scrap and waste resulting from manufacturing operations within the Contracting Parties
l Products obtained therein exclusively from products specified above
l Manufactured goods that will have attained a minimum local content of 25 percent.

How do you register?
A manufacturer or an exporter makes an application in writing to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority to export under this particular trade agreement.
The application should be supported by evidence that the goods originate from Zimbabwe.
To register to export to Mozambique in terms of this agreement,one should approach the nearest Zimra office and request for guidance.
Zimra will provide an information sheet which will give guidance on how to prepare an application for registration in terms of the Zimbabwe-Mozambique agreement.
If your goods qualify as originating from Zimbabwe, Zimra will process your application and you will be given a reference number which you quote when exporting your products to Mozambique.

Can I export goods if I am not the
manufacturer of the product?
Yes. You need to be registered with Zimra to export the particular manufactured product.

What export documentation is required in terms of this agreement?
In order for goods to enter Mozambique duty-free in terms of this agreement, a registered exporter must submit, to the Mozambique authorities, a Certificate of Origin stamped and signed by Zimra.
This Certificate of Origin should be attached to normal export documents each time one exports to Mozambique.
The certificate serves as confirmation
that the goods being exported are of
Zimbabwean origin and without it the concerned goods cannot be accorded duty-free entry.
