South Africa-based Zimbabwean rapper Gigi Lamayne is one of the artistes tipped to open for American rapper Nicki Minaj when she performs in South Africa next month.

Minaj will be performing in South Africa as part of her Pinkprint tour which has seen her taken all over the world.

Minaj will be performing in Johannesburg (Ticketpro Dome) on 17 March, Durban (Moses Mabhida Stadium) on 20 March and Cape Town (Grand West Arena) on 22 March.

The Anaconda singer was due to perform in South Africa in 2014 at the TribeOne Festival but the event was cancelled after a bitter battle between the organisers and the City of Tshwane.

Minajas show is expected to feature another hard-hitting female rapper as part of the line-up because of the American rapperas affinity for other female performers.

In a poll conducted by Kalawa Jazzme supremo Oskido, fans decided that of all the major rappers that they would like to see involved in the show, Lamayne was the go-to girl.

Lamayne got 39 percent of the poll vote while Fifie Cooper got 30 percent. Nadia Nakai and Cashtimeas Moozlie got 17 percent and 14 percent respectively.

While other rappers struggle to break into the dog eat dog world of South African hip hop, the 21-year-old Lamayne has found herself nesting under the wing of superstar Khuli Chana, who is grooming her as his heir apparent to his Motswako rap throne.

The two are both signed to Dream Team SA, an artiste management juggernaut that also houses Tsotsi actress Terry Pheto, Thembi Seete and DJ Ms Cosmos.
