THE Zimbabwe Rugby Union (ZRU) should have a director of rugby by early next year, with the position that has remained vacant since the start of 2020 still to be filled.
In July, ZRU advertised for the post of director of rugby with applications for the position having closed in early August.
Sifiso Made, the ZRU chief executive officer said they were now looking to have that position filled by February, with the chosen individual to be given a contract up to 2024.
“Rest assured by February we will have a director of rugby, we want our packages in place before we make an appointment. We want a long-term contract until 2024 in line with the coaches that are being appointed,’’ Made said.
The job of director of rugby comes with his expectations since whoever holds the post should be able to step in should any of the national team coaches be not available for whatever reason.
“It’s a high demanding job, the person is responsible for making sure that they give us direction, ensure that coaches are coaching correctly, educating and training coaches on new trends. They should be able to step whenever one of the coaches is not available for any reason,’’ Made said.
Nsikelelo Sibanda, who resigned in January this year to seek greener pastures at Hillcrest College in Mutare was the last to occupy the position of ZRU director of rugby. — @Mdawini_29.
