A team of students from a local college, His Mercy Christian College are expected back home today after a week-long student cultural exchange programme in Dubai.
The programme is a travelling tourism course where students from Zimbabwe and Dubai share their knowledge in Tourism and Travel and Geography.
The team comprised of four Advanced Level students Samantha Guveya, Carol Chingosho, Calvin Mudzingwa, Mussa Alphonco and two Ordinary level students Adam Mwaliyakumbo and Tanaka Zinunya.
The students were expected to visit tourism sites in Dubai.
Calvin Mudzingwa a Lower Sixth student said the trip was part of their exam meant to boost their knowledge in tourism and travel.
“It’s part of the syllabus in our study to travel and we chose an international destination since it covers another paper that we do, international tourism. We hope to learn much from this trip and bring back stuff that we can use in our studies,” said Calvin before their departure earlier this week.
Mussa Alphonce a Form Four student doing Geography said he hoped to bring information that would be useful for his fellow students in Zimbabwe.
“Everything that we are going to see, learn and enjoy will be helpful in our studies. It will also enable us to learn the material that they do there and we will also have a chance to exchange what we learn here and what they learn there,” said Mussa Alphonce.
“Apart from education we will have some time to get away from our studies, relax a little bit and prepare ourselves for the exams that are around the corner,” he said .
The students were expected to document highlights from the trip including their challenges and successes.
Calvin Mudzingwa said the students would also be assessed according to their performances and the efforts that they put in the organisation of the programme as the trip was part of their exam project.
Cynthia Gambiza, the teacher-in-charge of the programme said the trip was meant to equip the students with additional practical skills for subjects.
“In July there was a student debate team in Singapore for the World School Debating Competition. It is a great opportunity for our students to meet, interact and compete with students from other nations as it would boost their moral and confidence in what they do.”
