Zim trio sails into quarter-finals

In the boys category Tendai Tapfuma beat Philip De Bruyn 6-3, 6-4 to progress to the last eight and will take on Karan Salwan of India.

Salwan defeated South Africa’s Maxime De Clippel 6-0, 6-4.
Tapfuma was impressed with yesterday’s performance after failing to reach the final last week.
“It was good. I am happy. I beat the guy who had beaten me last week. It is never easy to play a guy who has beaten you before so I tried to stay focused.
“I am playing a guy who reached the finals last week and it’s not easy. I am just going to go out there and play my game, I will be more relaxed and try not to think of the past,” said Tapfuma.

Saurombe overpowered Joshua Luck 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 to set up a date with Guy Iradukunda who beat Bjorn Sheepbouwer 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Saurombe said he is looking forward to today’s match and will be hoping to improve from last week when he lost in the quarterfinals.
“I was like 5-2 down in the second set and had to come back. It was a little bit of a mental game because in the first set I did not play well so I had to try and get my mind together.

“The guy I am playing I have played him before in Luanda and won on clay court but he plays much better on hard court. Right now I am a little bit tired but I hope I will be fresh tomorrow. I will try to warm up well, loosen the muscles and get ready for the match. I will play my best,” said Saurombe.
Mathew Rossouw thumped Gueninle Ouattara 6-1, 6-0 while William Bushamuka dismissed Ismael Mzai 6-2, 6-3.

Tuki Jacobs overpowered Joseph Ubon 6-2, 6-1 and Francois Kellerman beat Courtney Lock 6-4, 6-4.
In another relief for the local players Nicole Dzenga cruised into the last eight in the girls section when she beat Melissa Laing 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. She will now face Spurti Shivalingaiah who defeated Sarah Sarjoo 6-2, 6-4.
In other matches Rutuja Bhosale dismissed Marnelle Boshoff 6-2, 6-1 while Nelise Verster beat Angelica Stols 6-2, 6-3. The two will meet today in the quarterfinals.

The other quarter-final match will feature Janet Koch who outclassed Dominique Friedrichs 6-2, 6-1 and Nayanika Devireddy who beat Liniques Theron 6-4, 6-2.
Elizabeth Kapari beat Huibre-Mare Botes 6-2, 6-1 and clashes with Lesedi Jacobs. Jacobs beat Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg 6-4, 6-2.
