adminCAPE TOWN — ZIMBABWE Under-17 schools rugby dominance over Namibia continued with a 15-5 win over their bitter rivals at Paarl Gymnasium yesterday in the Grant Khomo festival.
Last year Zimbabwe destroyed Namibia 21-7 and yesterday’s win gave them their second successive win over Namibia at this level of competition.
But the Under-13 side yesterday fell 14-18 to Namibia Under-13 in the Craven Week Festival at the same venue.
Three unconverted tries gave the Zimbabwe Under-17 schools rugby side a happy ending to their campaign with a 15-5 defeat of their bitter rivals.
A brace from man-of-the-match flanker Milton Kachecha — a touchdown in each half of the game – supported by Wilbert Munda’s 58th minute try was all Zimbabwe needed and Namibia’s William Otto’s second half response was not enough.
With 12 minutes on the clock, Kachecha got the opener but Tabonga Ngonyamo — who missed all of Zimbabwe’s three conversions — failed to make use of the bonus points’ kick.
But it was a different story for the Under-13 side who suffered their third defeat in the Craven Week Festival at the same venue falling 14-18 to Namibia Under-13.
Two converted tries from Alex Whitfield and Tawanda Matipano were all in vain as Namibia scored two tries — one of the converted – and two penalties, for a close win.
In Kimberly, the Zimbabwe Under-18 schools rugby side lost their final game 5-10 to Eastern Province who had not yet won a game in the National Girls’ Week Festival. —sportszone.co.zw
