ZIMBABWE and the United Nations have signed the 2021 annual work plan with a total requirement of over US$600 million and US$400 million of this amount has already been secured to support development.
This emerged yesterday after an engagement between Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ambassador Frederick Shava and UN resident co-ordinator in Zimbabwe Mr Edward Kallon.
Mr Kallon said their engagement was fruitful and they had agreed to have periodic meetings involving the Government and heads of UN agencies in Zimbabwe.
“It was an opportunity to also brief the Minister on what the United Nations is doing in Zimbabwe and how we can better co-ordinate our activities with the Government of Zimbabwe moving forward,” said Mr Kallon.
“It was a very useful discussion and in fact we have agreed on mechanisms on how the Minister of Foreign Affairs will be meeting periodically with the UN agency heads, where we can discuss issues of mutual interest and also how we can support the Government better and also improve on our co-ordination in the country.
“On the overall development co-operation, we have successfully signed the 2021 annual work plan. Under the co-operation framework which is closely aligned to the National Development Strategy 1, we have approved the work plan with a total requirement of over US$600 million of which US$400 million has been secured.”
Zimbabwe has made binding international commitments to adhere to the standards laid down in universal human rights documents, consistently pledging its allegiance to the UN code.
