THE Zimbabwe rugby team opened their Coca-Cola Under-13 Craven Week campaign with a 12-6 victory over Border Country Districts at the Paarl Gymnasium just outside Cape Town in South Africa yesterday.
Two tries by Hunter Chiutsi and Tadiwanashe Kavhura in either half were enough to dismiss the East London side.
Tawanda Matipano converted the first kick, but missed the second.
At noon today, the Zimbabwe Under-16 team will take on Valke Under-16 in the Grant Khomo at the Paarl Gymnasium Field B. The Zimbabwe Under-16 team is coached by former Sables winger Douglas Trivella.
Zimbabwe Under-18s go into action in the Under-18 Coca-Cola Craven Week tournament to be played at Kearsney College in Durban from July 11-16.
Old Mutual Zimbabwe are the official sponsors of all the representative national sides as part of their broad sponsorship of schools rugby that covers development of teams in previously disadvantaged communities.
The Coca-Cola Craven Week is an annual South African Rugby Union tournament aimed at identifying top school rugby players from provincial sides in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibian schools.
The tournament started in July 1964 and is named after legendary Springbok rugby player and coach Danie Craven.
