AN Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering student at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) in Bulawayo Amanda Peresu Moyo (21) has made history by becoming the first Zimbabwean to win the Miss Intercontinental Africa title.
Amanda’s journey began when she won the Miss Intercontinental Zimbabwe title, earning her the right to represent Zimbabwe at the international pageant in Egypt.
At the Miss Intercontinental pageant in Egypt, Amanda impressed judges and audiences alike, ultimately finishing as the 6th runner-up.
However, her achievements didn’t stop there as she was also crowned Miss Intercontinental Africa, a testament to her dedication and hard work.
“Honestly, the moment I was announced as the continental winner, I couldn’t believe it as I felt like dreaming. It was exciting and truly an honour to represent my country once again on an international stage,” she said.
Amanda described the experience of competing against other talented contestants as transformative.
“When I got there, the atmosphere was totally different — it wasn’t a competition. We built strong relationships, a sisterhood where we learnt from and helped each other. We really had so much fun together,” she said.
As Miss Intercontinental Africa, Amanda plans to focus on initiatives that promote environmental protection and women’s empowerment. She emphasised the importance of self-belief as she said, “all young women should believe in themselves and fight for what they require to pursue their dreams and impact the world is within them.”
In her career Amanda has worked with renowned pageant and runway coach Royce Gavi of Scarlet Home of Crowns to prepare for the pageant.
Gavi expressed pride and admiration on Amanda’s achievement.
“Amanda was an absolute delight to work with. Her dedication and passion were evident from the start, and I knew she had the potential to make a strong impact. I am honoured to have played a part in her journey and I have no doubt that she will make a positive impact as Miss Intercontinental Africa,” said Gavi.
Amanda’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and perseverance.
She has previously won the Miss Teen Ecotourism World 2022 title and finished in the top eight at the Miss Universe Zimbabwe 2024 pageant.
With her new found title, Amanda is ready to take on the world, spreading her message of empowerment and inspiring a new generation of leaders.
