ZIMBABWE has been elected to the Council of Administration in the Universal Postal Union (UPU) at the ongoing 28th Congress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The UPU is a United Nations specialised agency and the postal sector’s primary forum for international cooperation.

For over 40 years, Zimbabwe has been a member of the UPU, a sign of its commitment to innovation, collaboration and transformation in the global postal sector.

Zimbabwe joins fellow African nations under Region 5 — Cameroon, Egypt, Ghana, Madagascar, Mali, Morocco, Nigeria, Seychelles, Uganda, and the United Republic of Tanzania — in shaping the future of global postal governance.

The Ministry of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services continues to make international strides under the leadership of Minister Tatenda Mavetera, Deputy Minister Phuti and permanent secretary Dr Beulah Chirume.

Minister Mavetera said the victory shows the country’s commitment in growing the ICT sector.

“This is more than a seat; it is a clear recognition of the reverence and respect Zimbabwe commands on the international stage. Member states have affirmed their confidence in Zimbabwe’s leadership acumen, its consistency in advancing collaboration and its commitment to innovation within international organisations.

“Zimbabwe remains committed to building a strong, connected, and inclusive global postal community — guided by the vision of H.E. President Dr. Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa,” said Minister Mavetera.
