Zimbabwe, India strengthen cooperation in mining

Zimbabwe and India yesterday held an inaugural meeting of the Joint Coordination Committee on Mining and Mineral Resources to strengthen strategic cooperation in the fields of mining, mineral resources and geology.

Mines and Mining Development Permanent Secretary, Dr Thomas Wushe, led the Zimbabwean delegation in a meeting also virtually attended by Indian officials led by Mr Shri Vivek Kumar Bajpai, the joint secretary in the Ministry of Mines, and India’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Bramha Kumar.

The joint committee discussed a shared roadmap to identify priority areas, investment opportunities, capacity building, skilling of human resource and enhancing bilateral trade in mines and mineral sector.

Zimbabwe and India expressed a strong commitment to fostering a mutually beneficial partnership that leverages India’s technical expertise and Zimbabwe’s rich mineral potential, setting a positive trajectory for future engagements.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, the Zimbabwe Geological Survey and the Mining Promotion Corporation and India’s representatives from the National Critical Mineral Mission (NCMM), the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Khanij Bidesh India Ltd. (KABIL), and MOIL Limited also attended the meeting.
