ZIMBABWE National Organisation of Associations and Residents Trust (ZNOART) chairman, Mr Shalvar Chikomba, has commended Chitungwiza Municipality for the measures it is taking to ease challenges being faced by the town.

He was speaking during a meeting with Chitungwiza Mayor Councillor Rosaria Mangoma, acting town clerk Mr Japson Nemuseso and directors from all departments.on Monday.

“What is lacking is information dissemination. Residents are lacking information on what you are doing,” he said.

“As ZNOART, we have had to hold this meeting with you to understand what you are doing as a council,” he said.

Mr Chikomba said other stakeholders, such as Zesa, should also be part of the interface meeting.

“We also need EMA due to unregulated settlements. We want residents to understand what you are doing, that is the reason why we decided to hold a meeting with you, on the sewer crisis and what you are doing as a council,” he said.

“During the meeting you mentioned that your projects lack funding. As a residents’ association are willing to work with you as long as it is for the development of this town.”

He said residents want clean water, a functional sewer system, door-to-door refuse collection and swift reaction to repairing sewer bursts.

“We applaud the Government’s efforts through Presidential boreholes. But we want residents to get service delivery and, in turn, pay their bills to council,” said Mr Chikomba.

He said there is need for timelines on such things as attending to sewer bursts.

Mr Chikomba said residents of Chitungwiza and Harare were also concerned with unregulated settlements, which are later demolished.

“Those are some of the issues that we should address as residents and council,” he said.
