ZIMBABWE’S Osaka 2025 Expo pavilion in Japan has attracted more than 500 000 visitors in just two weeks, showcasing the nation’s growing appeal as a global tourism destination.
The country’s presence at the major international tourism exposition has not gone unnoticed, with the Zimbabwe Pavilion drawing praise for its captivating display of cultural heritage, natural wonders, and diverse tourism offerings.
“Zimbabwe stole the spotlight at the ongoing Osaka 2025 Expo in Japan, as over half-a-million visitors flocked to its Pavilion during the major international tourism showcase,” the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) said in a statement.
The Expo, which began in April, has already recorded 11.5 million attendees, positioning Zimbabwe’s turnout among the most impressive of African exhibits so far. The country’s tourism sector is projected to grow by 15 percent or more, buoyed by ongoing engagements with global visitors at the expo.
Dr Takaruza Munyanyiwa, Secretary for Tourism and Hospitality Industry, recently concluded a week-long visit to the Expo, where he spearheaded efforts to promote Zimbabwe’s tourism brand to a global audience. His presence underlined the Government’s continued push to reassert Zimbabwe as a preferred destination through strategic international engagement.
“Dr Munyanyiwa engaged directly with attendees, expressing confidence that the exposure would yield meaningful results for Zimbabwe’s tourism sector,” ZTA said.
During the visit, Dr Munyanyiwa held a series of high-level engagements with Japanese tour operators, travel media, and potential investors, articulating Zimbabwe’s competitive tourism edge, anchored in its wildlife, heritage, and culture.
ZTA said the overwhelming response demonstrated the increasing global appetite for authentic African experiences, and that Zimbabwe was well-positioned to meet that demand.
“He noted that the response had been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the growing interest as a clear indication that global recognition of the Zimbabwe brand is steadily rising,” the authority added.
The six-month-long Expo, which commenced on April 13 and runs until October 13, is expected to attract over 28,3 million visitors under the theme “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.” Zimbabwe is participating under the Connecting Lives Zone and is exhibiting under the national theme “Beyond the Limit,” aimed at showcasing the country’s rich cultural heritage, economic potential, and investment opportunities.
