THE Zimbabwe Pool Association (Zipa) will send a 16-member team comprising eight men and as many women for the 2024 Blackball International World Championships in the United Kingdom from October 11-20.
The championships will be held at Bridlington Spa in Bridlington, Yorkshire and will feature individual and team competitions, bringing together top players from around the world.
Wellington Chikasha, the Zipa technical director, said the team is set to leave for the tournament on October 9.
“The players are excited and cannot wait for this historical event to showcase their talent. The team is a mixed bag of tried and tested seasonal campaigners and upcoming stars,” said Chikasha.
“We hope to bring home the trophy and make our country proud. Morocco, South Africa and Uganda will also participate in the event.”

One of the female participants, Christine Sengwe, believes this is a good opportunity for pool players and hopes they will excel despite the lack of incentives.
“It is a good opportunity and we hope to bring some trophies home. However, as a player with past experiences of outside international events, part of the zeal is taken away by the fact that we usually do not receive any allowances and I hope this will not discourage or affect our quality of play,” said Sengwe.
