ZIMBABWE international cricket senior men’s team qualified for the Super 8 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup currently underway in Sri Lanka.
The Chevrons managed to qualify without a ball being bowled after torrential rains stopped play at Pallekele International Cricket Ground in Sri Lanka. The abandonment of the match meant Zimbabwe and Ireland had to split a point apiece, dashing the latter and Australia’s hopes of progressing to the next round.
The win means Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka have both qualified out of the Group A.
The Chevrons cleverly constructed their passage which they thoroughly deserved. Even though the team had set backs of injuries to Sikanda Raza during the match against Australia, and Brendan Taylor’s hamstring injury, they embodied the nation’s fighting spirit by thrashing Oman and then beating Australia.
The Chevrons have thereby booked their spot in the next cricket world cup to be hosted in Australia and New Zealand.
