Zimbabwe to host COSSASA Games

Zimbabwe will host the event and have begun preparations for the competition expected to attract athletes from the entire Southern Africa region.
The meeting is slated for Wednesday at the National Sports Stadium.

Nash and Naph agreed through their respective standing committees to undertake the management of the COSSASA competition scheduled to run from May 2 to May 5 in Harare.
Six countries — Namibia, Lesotho, South Africa, Zambia Zimbabwe and Botswana — have already confirmed their participation.

Naph representative, Elliot Masarirambi, said the meeting will see the various committees that were put in place to prepare for the event presenting their reports on the progress they have made so that they discuss the way forward.
“We have a meeting on March, Nash and Naph will be meeting. The meeting will also be attended by the SRC (Sports and Recreation Commission) officers and we hope Naaz (National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe) will attend.

“We were put in committees to work on different issues, so it will be basically reports from all the committees,” said Masarirambi.
Masarirambi said they would be holding the National championships for primary schools on March 19 and 20 and the secondary schools competition on March 21 and 22.

The national teams to take part in the COSSASA event will be selected during the two events.
“We are waiting for the primary and secondary schools to have their national championships, that’s where the teams will be picked and from there they will get into camp,” said Masarirambi.
Most of the provinces have already have their provincial competitions as they prepare for the national events.
