Zimbabwe Cricket’s Kelis Ndhlovu has suffered a major setback in her international career after she was slapped with a bowling ban by the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The ban is with immediate effect.
The Zimbabwe all-rounder was banned following a report of her bowling action by match officials during an ODI match against Ireland last month.
A statement from the international cricket governing body confirmed the ban on the Zimbabwe women’s U-19 cricket captain.
“Kelis Ndhlovu of the Zimbabwe women’s team has been suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect.
“The decision came after an independent assessment confirmed that the left-arm spinner uses an illegal bowling action,” reads the statement.
The 19-year-old was reported by match officials during the first ODI against Ireland in Belfast on 26 July and she underwent the assessment in Pretoria, South Africa.
Ndhlovu can still bowl in international matches if she passes a re-assessment test on her bowling action.
“In accordance with Article 6.1 of the Bowling Regulations, Ndhlovu’s suspension shall remain in place until she submits to a re-assessment of her bowling action to confirm that she can bowl without using illegal bowling action,” said ICC.
Ndhlovu has played 13 women’s ODIs and 51 women’s T20Is, taking 19 and 44 wickets respectively.
