ZIMBABWEAN international volleyball referee Eliot Mupariwa has been invited to officiate at the Confederations of International Volleyball World Beach Tour to be held in Durban, South Africa from December 7-16.

The event is one of the most prestigious beach volleyball tournaments in the world where the finest players compete.

Mupariwa is one of the two referees in Southern Africa qualified to officiate at international events with the other match official being Giovanni Bake from South Africa.

He told Chronicle he was ecstatic about being the first Zimbabwean to officiate at the Confederations of World Beach Volleyball Tour.

“It’s the first time for Zimbabwe to be represented or be part of the Confederations of World Beach Volleyball Tour and I think that it’s going to open a lot of avenues for our volleyball,” he said.

“Being recognised by the international federation I believe is a vote of confidence for Zimbabwe’s volleyball and what’s now needed is for the corporate world to support the sport so that more officials are developed and that way the sport will grow faster.”

Fredrick Ndlovu, the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association president, congratulated Mupariwa for his achievement and said it is a sign of good things to come for Zimbabwean volleyball.
