ZIMBABWEAN businessman, Tendani Sebata has pulled the plug on his big-money backing of Botswana Premier League giants Township Rollers, in a shock move that’s sent tremors through southern African football.
Sebata, who took over as club president at the start of the season through his South Africa-based firm, Sebata Holdings, is officially cutting ties on 31 May 2025 — just months after stepping into the Rollers’ hot seat.
The club tried to keep things calm, saying only:
“Township Rollers FC confirms that on Monday, 28 April 2025, we received formal communication from Sebata Consolidated Holdings confirming Mr Sebata’s resignation effective 31 May 2025.”
But while Rollers were playing nice, Sebata Holdings fired off a separate bombshell — dropping strong hints that all was not well behind closed doors.
Though the club chose not to publicly reveal the reasons, Sebata’s camp pointed to “concerns over governance” as a key factor in the decision to walk away from the blue and yellow giants.
In a move that has stunned fans and insiders alike, Sebata Holdings has been speaking to the media, raising eyebrows about alleged boardroom dysfunction. It’s a messy divorce — and the fallout could be massive.
Sebata had injected serious cash into Township Rollers, a club known for its rich history and huge following. His sudden exit now raises big questions:
What went wrong?
Was it a power struggle? Poor management? Or just broken promises?
The club, for its part, said it will “engage internal stakeholders, including players, coaches and staff,” as it looks to recover from the financial and leadership shake-up.
But with one foot already out the door, Sebata has made it clear — he’s not looking back.
