A Zimbabwean woman from Bulawayo has broken new ground on the international stage after being elected to a top leadership position in Toastmasters International, becoming one of the few Zimbabweans to lead a major regional structure within the globally respected communication and leadership organisation.

Future Moyo has been elected District Director Elect for Toastmasters District 129 — a regional leadership position overseeing operations across seven Southern African countries including Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Angola, Eswatini and South Africa.

She officially assumes office on 1 July 2026. Her election marks another major milestone for Zimbabwean women rising into influential international leadership spaces traditionally dominated by larger economies and more established global networks.

District 129, also known as Toastmasters Southern Africa, was established in 2024 following the division of the former District 74 into two separate districts as the organisation expanded rapidly across the region. The district consists of more than 140 clubs spread across Southern Africa and works with a number of major corporate partners.
Founded in 1924 and headquartered in Englewood, Colorado, USA, Toastmasters International operates in nearly 150 countries with more than 265 000 members globally, focusing on leadership development, public speaking and communication skills.

For Moyo, the journey from Bulawayo to continental leadership has been shaped by discipline, entrepreneurship and a passion for personal growth. Moyo said her passion for long-distance running has significantly shaped her approach to life and leadership.

“Running teaches that breakthroughs come after the hardest moments, that consistency beats intensity and that the finish line always rewards those who refuse to give up,” she said.
Observers said her election carried symbolic significance for Zimbabwe, particularly for women and young professionals seeking to break into global leadership spaces from local communities. It also reflects the growing influence of Zimbabwean professionals within international development, leadership and communication networks.

Moyo believes in personal development as the foundation for transformation and said Toastmasters played a central role in shaping her confidence, communication ability and leadership voice.
“Toastmasters has been central to my journey — a real-life skills platform that shaped my confidence, voice and leadership,” she said.

Her vision for District 129 centres on expanding access to leadership and communication training while ensuring stronger growth and support for clubs across the region.
“Where every member grows and every club thrives,” is the leadership mantra she now hopes to implement across the seven-country district.

A computer scientist by profession, Moyo is also a seasoned entrepreneur with more than 12 years’ experience running a training business specialising in digital marketing, artificial intelligence training, leadership and communication. She is also an accomplished business development consultant who works with organisations to unlock growth and build high-performing teams.

Moyo joined Toastmasters International in 2016 with what she describes as a mission to become a transformational leader capable of making lasting impact within communities. Over the years, she steadily climbed through the organisation’s leadership structures, serving as Club president, Area director, Division director, Club growth director and Programme quality director. Her rise has been accompanied by a string of accolades and high-performance rankings.

In 2023, she was named Toastmaster of the Year — one of the organisation’s highest peer-recognition honours. She also led her club to the prestigious President’s distinguished status, achieved the number one Division ranking across a 12-country region and ranked among the top five performing Area directors across 12 countries. Her leadership achievements also earned global recognition through the prestigious Smedley Distinguished Award rankings.
