Zimbabwe exported 140 242 tonnes of steel and iron products worth US$40,6 million in the first half of 2025, according to the latest figures from the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ).
The increase follows the recent commissioning of the Manhize plant, signalling Zimbabwe’s rapid ascent towards becoming a regional steel powerhouse. The exports stand in stark contrast to 2024, when the country exported a mere 413 tonnes, primarily scrap metal, the figures show.
The Manhize plant, a significant industrial investment, has been a game-changer, propelling Zimbabwe into a new era of steel production and export. Exports from the newly operational facility are currently being channelled to key regional markets, including South Africa and Mozambique.
The expansion of market reach underscores the plant’s immediate impact on regional trade dynamics.
Industry observers note the rapid growth in steel exports positions Zimbabwe to significantly boost its economy and reduce reliance on imported steel, aligning with national industrialisation goals.

Great news indeed. We hope to see this leading to better public services as inflows pickup into treasury. We cant afford the Chiadzva fiasco
