Zimbabwe’s vast and diverse tourism portfolio has received another significant endorsement from visiting former Angolan Vice President Mr Bornito de Sousa, further cementing the country’s growing regional and international appeal.

During his visit, Mr de Sousa applauded the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s (ZTA) renewed tourism thrust, which is anchored on the destination brand “Zimbho”, a concept that encapsulates the country’s heritage, natural beauty and value proposition to the world.

“Former Vice President H.E. Bornito de Sousa endorsed the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s acclaimed tourism thrust, encapsulated in the tagline ‘Zimbho,’” Parliament of Zimbabwe said in a statement.

The endorsement follows the distinguished statesman’s tour of some of Zimbabwe’s most iconic heritage and tourism sites, reaffirming the country’s status as a premier destination rich in culture, history and natural splendour.

“During the course of the week, he visited the internationally renowned Great Zimbabwe Monuments,” Parliament said.

The Great Zimbabwe Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stand as a powerful symbol of Africa’s ancient civilisation and architectural ingenuity and remain a cornerstone of Zimbabwe’s cultural tourism offering.

Mr de Sousa’s admiration for Zimbabwe’s attractions is not new.

“Previously, in 2017, he toured Victoria Falls, where he was mesmerised by the grandeur of the majestic natural wonder,” Parliament added.

Notably, Mr de Sousa observed that the word “Zimbho” in Angola refers to a beautiful seashell that is highly valued and held in great esteem.

The symbolic connection between Zimbabwe’s tourism brand and the treasured Angolan seashell adds a deeper layer of meaning to the destination’s identity, reinforcing notions of value, beauty and pride.

As Zimbabwe continues to reposition itself on the global tourism map, such high-level endorsements underscore the country’s readiness to reclaim its place as a must-visit destination.
