Zimpapers on Friday won the Excellence in Community Empowerment & Social Impact Award at the fifth Zimbabwe Top 100 Sustainable and Responsible Business Awards held in Harare.
Two Zimpapers’ journalists — Liberty Dube from Manica Post and The Chronicle’s Leonard Ncube — also scooped awards at the event.
Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister Raj Modi, who was guest of honour, said the awards inspire companies to take responsibility of the communities they operate in.
“These awards encourage companies to be responsible and make a positive impact to the communities that surround them. The awards also act as a bedrock to share strategies and solutions that tackle sustainability issues,” he said.
“These awards, therefore, speak to the creation of a better future because if corporate social responsibility is not practised, the ultimate goal of benefiting society will not be achieved.”
Running under the theme “Celebrating Sustainability Excellence — Towards Achieving Vision 2030”, the awards were hosted by the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) in partnership with the Corporate Social Responsibility Network of Zimbabwe (CSRNZ).
Zimpapers assistant general manager (Digital and Publishing Division) Mrs Daisy Sakara attended the award ceremony while public relations and communication manager (DAP) Mrs Pauline Matanda received the award on behalf of the integrated media company.
The awards came at a time Zimpapers recently hosted the highly subscribed Cancer Power Walk to raise awareness on the non-communicable disease.
