HARARE — As preparations gather momentum for the 11th edition of the Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk, Island Hospice and Healthcare has commended the initiative’s growing impact on cancer awareness, fundraising and patient support in Zimbabwe.
Island Hospice and Healthcare Executive Director, Dr Ngoni Nyambawaro, said the annual event has become a powerful platform for bringing hope to individuals and families affected by cancer while mobilising critical support for palliative care services.
“We are deeply grateful to Zimpapers and its partners for sustaining the Cancer Power Walk for the past eleven years. This initiative has grown beyond a fundraising event to become an important platform for raising awareness about cancer, promoting early detection and reminding those affected by cancer that they are not alone. Every contribution, every sponsorship and every participant help us continue providing much-needed palliative care and support services to patients and their families across Zimbabwe.”
Dr Nyambawaro said this year’s theme, “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters,” reflects the reality faced by many cancer patients and their loved ones.
“Behind every diagnosis is a person, a family and a unique journey that deserves compassion, dignity and support. We encourage corporates, institutions and individuals to partner with this noble cause and help us expand our reach. Together, we can ensure that more Zimbabweans facing cancer receive the care, comfort and hope they need at every stage of their journey.”
The Cancer Power Walk, organised by Zimpapers in support of Island Hospice and Healthcare, will take place on November 7, 2026, simultaneously in Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare, Gweru, Masvingo and Chinhoyi.
Zimpapers Corporate Communications and Sustainability Manager, Pauline Matanda, said the event had grown into one of Zimbabwe’s flagship health and wellness initiatives, bringing together survivors, caregivers, healthcare professionals, corporates and communities in the collective fight against cancer. “This year marks the 11th edition of the Zimpapers Cancer Power Walk, a milestone that reflects more than a decade of raising awareness, mobilising communities and supporting cancer care in Zimbabwe. Through this platform, we continue to encourage early detection, strengthen awareness and generate resources that support individuals and families affected by cancer.”
Matanda said support from the corporate sector had been encouraging, with FBC Holdings confirmed as the event’s Diamond Sponsor. Other partners who have come on board include Harare Oncology Pharmacy, Health Professions Authority Zimbabwe, Sir Charles Fitness, Zorro, St Giles and Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Zimbabwe, while several organisations are currently finalising their participation.

We are also encouraged by the positive response from organisations that recognise the importance of investing in community health and wellbeing.”
Participants will have an opportunity to take part in a 5km walk, 10km walk or run, and a 21km run or cycle, making the event accessible to people of varying fitness levels.
