ZIMPOST money transfer service, ZIP Cash, has extended its services to Botswana in a move aimed at improving quick money transfer across the world.
ZIMPOST managing director, Dr Douglas Zimbango, confirmed this recently at a mobile post office launch in Chipinge and said with effect from September Zip Cash customers could now receive and send money to and from Botswana.
He said plans were in progress to extend the project to South Africa.
Dr Zimbango said the service was a low-cost system which enables people even in rural areas to receive money instantly from relatives in the Diaspora.
“Zip Cash has very affordable rates. Payment of rates is done at the point of sending and the receiver will not pay anything when collecting the money.
“Zimbabweans in the Diaspora can send money back home through this wide international network.
“The extension of the service to cover Botswana is poised to bring convenience to Zimbabweans with relatives working in Botswana who are now able to send cash back at affordable rates,” he said.
Dr Zimbango said the new Zip Cash money transfer was well received by many especially in rural areas since ZIMPOST is well represented throughout the country.
“With a network of 227 outlets around the country we have managed to connect various people with their loved ones in towns.
“The company is well represented in rural areas and this means Zimbabweans can now send pocket money, school fees and bus fare to their children at boarding schools or relatives in rural areas at low rates,” he said.
ZIMPOST launched Zip Cash in December 2013. The system allows customers to securely send and receive money locally and internationally through the postal network.
The system has the capacity to connect over 600 000 post offices worldwide subject to bilateral agreements between countries.
The platform allows transactions to those without bank accounts.
