THE 2020 Bulawayo Pool Association (BPA) Premier League will welcome last year’s Central Business District (CBD) champions Zimra who have vowed to give out their best when the action begins in due course.

The customs duty officials got the ticket to compete in the City of Kings billiards elite league together with fellow seasoned campaigners Southworld Chikavangwena who came out as the first runners-up in the CBD league competition.

“We are happy that we are now going to compete with the best of pool in Bulawayo after having a fine run in the previous season. We look forward to doing well against well-established teams that include Skittle Inn, Kings and Entumbane. We have learnt a lot from our previous stints in the CBD league and as such we are not going to the Premier League to make up numbers but to compete,” said Zimra captain Wisdom “VP” Munenge who leads a side that has the services of Tawanda Mupenzwa, Sammuel Makombera, Dzapasi Moyo,Kudzanai Nyakatswu Mike Mutsevedu, Shepherd Chipoka and Lance Ndlovu among other talented players.

The BPA topflight league will also provide home to two police outfits Nkulumane PC and Western Commonage who were last season’s Mzilikazi District two best performers.

Meanwhile, with the BPA elective Annual General Meeting (AGM) set to be held on 1 February the elections campaign has reached fever pitch amid revelations that over 16 candidates were eyeing different executive offices.

Outgoing BPA vice-president Donald Wadawu will not be seeking re-election and Wilson Mudari is looking forward to be his successor.

Local businessman Fortune Tawengwa said he was confident of assuming the position of president which was previously held by Patrick Taziwa who led an executive that had Tapiwa Sikwila as its secretary general, Shepherd Moyo as treasurer and Farai Nyandoro as the association’s publicity officer.

Also in the outgoing executive are Osbornewells Dziko (Development Officer), Priscilla Lunga (Women in Pool Representative), Admire Mahlunge (Player Representative), Johnson Mawushe (Chairman of Referees) and John Mahachi (Athletes Commission Representative).

Nyandoro, Dziko and Moyo have already confirmed that they will be seeking re-election to their current portfolios.

Kudakwashe Shoko will be gunning for the Player Representative’s post.

“I’m looking forward to taking over from Mahlunge and I’m very much confident lots of votes will come my way. I have been into pool for so long and I think I can give a big helping hand in the development of the game,” said Shoko.
