ZIMBABWE Revenue Authority (Zimra) staff in Bulawayo on Monday participated in a fire mock exercise aimed at testing their preparedness and response in the event of a fire outbreak.
Bulawayo City chief fire officer, Mr Mhlangano Moyo, said the exercise was designed to raise fire safety awareness among staff while evaluating evacuation procedures, alarm systems and internal communication.

“A key objective of the drill was to test staff response time and coordination and to identify any gaps in the emergency plan,” Mr Moyo said.
During the exercise, a simulated fire scenario was triggered, prompting staff to evacuate the building using designated routes and assemble at a safe point. Safety checks and a head count were carried out to ensure all personnel were accounted for.
Mr Moyo said most staff followed procedures well, although a few were initially unsure of what was happening. A debriefing session followed the exercise, highlighting areas that needed improvement.

“Overall, the drill went very well. Our stakeholders showed keen interest and on our side, we are satisfied that we managed to test our preparedness plans and reaction times for potential city centre fires,” he said.
